How should I prepare for the loss of the key/its data thus the private keys?

This is actually recommended in the FIDO2 specification, that user should register a couple of devices to account to be safe in case of H/W malfunction. Services with good 2FA support have as well other tools for confirming authentication, like one-time keys, OTP etc., so one could avoid additional expenses.
By design FIDO2 specification is against backing up secret key, or cloning devices.
