I have a nitrokey 3a. I have been using it for FIDO2 and OTP passwords. Today when I tried to get an OTP password, I found the passwords menu was empty (tried on the graphical app and the nitropy tool on a different device). The only hint I have is an error message “ListCredentialsJobFIDO2-Pin is not set on this device” from the graphical app. The device itself still works for FIDO2, so it is not completely bricked. I have not recently updated the device.
I understand these devices are fallible, but my experience with nitrokey has been very unreliable so far. I have a backup, but I won’t be able to access it for a few days, so until then, I need to ask my IT department to let me back in. Have other users had similar experiences with their units? If so, how many do you carry with you (or did you switch to another key for work)?
