I noticed there are a few .npf and rom files, tried using one of them in flash/update.
But this bricked my X230. Hence, I want to know for the foreseeable future how to do this properly within the console. used maximized one which was dumb. I assumed that it just needed to be an .npf file, very foolish of me.
I also want to do this right for my T430. Although that one at least isn’t bricked. 
Also, can you upgrade from 1.3.1 to 2.1, or… idk.
