NitroPad Troubleshooting Summary for Nitrokey Support
Customer reports NitroPad purchased directly from Nitrokey.
Observed during troubleshooting:
- Laptop has never successfully booted since arrival.
- Heads version 2.6.3.
- NVMe SSD detected and partitions present.
- Ubuntu installation appears intact.
- /boot contains kernel and initrd files.
- HOTP/TOTP checks succeed.
- GPG key is present in keyring.
Key errors observed:
- “gpg: no default secret key: Unusable secret key”
- “gpg: signing failed: Unusable secret key”
- “ERROR: /boot: Unable to sign kexec hashes”
- “Invalid signature on kexec boot params”
- “key was created 15915 days in the future”
- “Hash of TPM2 primary key handle does not exist”
Additional notes:
- Update checksums/signing operation failed.
- User does not know the LUKS passphrase.
- TPM reset, re-ownership, factory reset, and key replacement were not performed.
- System clock appeared reasonable (2026-06-05 UTC) during troubleshooting.
