Linux Mint passwordless login with Nitrokey 3

Hello,

I would like to set up passwordless login on a machine with Linux Mint 22 (which is based on Ubuntu 24.04) and the Cinnamon desktop. (Home folder is not encrypted.) I am however reluctant to follow these instructions,

https://docs.nitrokey.com/nitrokey3/linux/desktop-login

as they are for Ubuntu 20.04 with Gnome Display Manager. The risk of locking myself out of my machine and needing a complete reinstall of the OS with inapplicable instructions seems rather high.

Can anyone point me to an instruction set that has been verified to work with Linux Mint 22 and the Cinnamon desktop? I have already searched the Linux Mint support forum and found nothing. A google search only uncovers discussions for Linux Mint 19.3 and a different U2F product.

Therefore ever be logged in twice when changing login methods.

I was hoping for feedback from someone who has used the Ubuntu instructions successfully on a current Linux Mint.
