My NitroPC immediately shuts down when I connect a bus-powered Seagate Portable 4 TB hard drive while the computer is running.
And if the drive is already connected when I switch on the NitroPC, the computer does not boot normally either.
I reproduced the problem with three different new drives from the same Seagate product family. It occurs on both front and rear USB ports.
After the failure, the power LED is very dim, StartOS and SSH are unreachable, and the computer can only be recovered by disconnecting it completely from mains power. A USB-connected HP SSD S700 1 TB works normally on the same NitroPC. The Seagate drives also work on another Debian computer. And since the failure occurs both during operation and before the operating system can boot, a purely StartOS-specific operating system cause appears unlikely.

I will not perform further crash tests because the uncontrolled shutdown risks filesystem damage.
**Is this a known NitroPC problem? Could the startup current of bus-powered mechanical hard drives trigger a protection circuit? Which external 4 TB drives are known to work, and would a powered USB hub be a safe solution?
