Noob qubestion about Nitropad

Hey i would like to buy a Nitropad with heads and coreboot. I have so many questions… first can i can easily setup heads and coreboot with my own Nitrokey i already have one ? or do i need to buy a another one with my order so the nitrokey team setup it for me ?Also is it possible to setup 2fa in the nitrokey with coreboot and heads ? Like example when the computer boot it ask for a 2fa code

I also wonder if there is a guide that explain how to setup heads with a nitrokey ? And what i can do if the development of heads is stopped for any reason ? Do the security of the computer will be compromised ?

And last question is it possible to easily replace the battery of the Nitropad if i’m not satisfed by the battery provided ?

Thanks you for any help to clarify how the whole things works

Hello,

yes you can use you own Nitrokey and set it up with your Heads Nitropad.

You can find here some guide about how to setup a key within Heads:

https://docs.nitrokey.com/nitropad-nitropc/heads/factory-reset-heads2

No 2fa is not possible with Heads.

Yes battery are not soldered then replaceable.

Thanks for the reply and last question can we change the RAM too ? I’ve seen that Novacustom doesn’t recommend to their customers doing this. They say we must use their goodram. Is it the same thing for Nitropad ? We can only use the ram provided in the laptop ?

Yes you can, Novacustom did experienced some issue with other RAM brand this is why they recommend using goodram but most of RAM brands should work with NitroPads.

As @alexandre rightly pointed out about Novacustom, this is something that has also happened to other competitor brands and was reported and discussed in forums. It is not a very good idea: the best RAM are those tested and sold by the manufacturer. Choosing another type of RAM (different brand and/or different timings) sometimes works but can also be a real headache. Even same brand but different capacity can lead to unexplainable problems that go unresolved. The laptop manufacturer won’t help you with that, as it is outside of their scope, warranty, and untested.
Besides possible compatibility issues, fundamentally I can’t see any reason, security-wise, why such extreme measure would be necessary? Even if your threat model is such that you fear “in-transit NSA rework factory” style attacks, good anti-interdiction measures should be adequate enough. I believe Nitrokey offers such additional service, don’t they?
