Hi, I am thinking about buying a Nitrokey phone because I look for a safer phone. One of my activities with the cell phone is online banking, I have on it the bank apps, is this a probem? would they run well?
Thank you.
Hi, way too late, but might be helpful for people dropping by and because this seems to be a frequent fear in regard to GrapheneOS.
GrapheneOS (the OS on the Nitrophone) has one of / if not the best app compatibility you can get from a non-stock Android phone.
Under the following link, there can be found a list of banking apps compatible with GrapheneOS:
You might need to install sandboxed Google Play services for some of these apps, but many work just fine without them.
Some apps use the Play Integrity API, an anti-competitive “feature” by Google, to ban non-stock OSes, which includes GrapheneOS. Those are very few apps. I haven’t encountered one yet, but, for example, Authy and eBay use this, also see: https://grapheneos.org/articles/attestation-compatibility-guide#apps-banning-grapheneos
So chances are, most apps you want to use – including banking apps – will work just fine out of the box or with a few settings easily adjusted (on the GrapheneOS Forum, there is also a lot of discussion about how any issues that might arise can be solved, so a quick search might help if there are any problems).
