Hallo,
um dieses Problem zu beheben, ist leider eine Firmware Aktualisierung erforderlich. Die Ursache ist, dass mit dem letzten größeren Funktionsupdate von Microsoft Windows 10 (build 1809) keine USB-Geräte mehr verwendet werden können, die sich neben anderen Funktionen auch als Eingabegeräte anmelden. Der Nitrokey Pro meldet sich bisher als ein solches Gerät an, um das automatische Einfügen von OTP-Passwörtern zu ermöglichen.
Damit das Gerät wieder unter Windows 10 läuft muss die Firmware aktualisiert werden. Ein Update kann leider nicht ausgeführt werden, ohne das Gehäuse aufzubrechen bzw. ohne technische Vorkenntnisse [1]. Deshalb müssen wir darum bitten, dass Sie uns das Gerät zuschicken, damit wir die Firmware aktualisieren können.
Alle Daten des Nitrokeys sollten gesichert werden, bevor das Gerät zu uns geschickt wird. Auch wenn es unter Umständen möglich ist, den Nitrokey auch nach dem Update normal weiterzuverwenden, können wir dies nicht garantieren. Beachten Sie vor allem folgende Punkte.

Deaktivieren Sie die Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung (OTP) für alle Dienste, sofern diese eingerichtet wurde und keine Alternative Anmeldung möglich ist.

Sichern Sie alle Passwörter des Passwort Safes.

Stellen Sie sicher, dass Sie eine Kopie der gespeicherten Schlüssel haben. Falls Sie diese direkt auf dem Gerät erstellt haben, ist dies leider nicht mehr möglich.

Wichtig: Bitte benutzen Sie unbedingt einen Luftpolsterumschlag, damit das Gerät nicht beschädigt wird. Legen Sie bitte außerdem einen Zettel bei, dem Hinweis "Windows 10 build 1809" und die Adresse, wohin das Gerät anschließend geschickt werden soll.

to fix this problem, a firmware update is required. The reason is that with the last major function update from Microsoft Windows 10 (build 1809), USB devices that log on as input devices in addition to other functions can no longer be used. The Nitrokey Pro logs in as such a device to allow the automatic insertion of OTP passwords.
In order for the device to run under Windows 10 again, the firmware must be updated. Unfortunately, an update cannot be executed without breaking the case or without technical prior knowledge [1]. Therefore we have to ask you to send us the device so that we can update the firmware.
All Nitrokey data should be backed up before the device is sent to us. Although it may be possible to continue using the Nitrokey after the update, we cannot guarantee this. Please pay particular attention to the following points.
- Deactivate two-factor authentication (OTP) for all services if it has been set up and no alternative login is possible.
- Secure all passwords in the password safe.
- Make sure you have a copy of the stored keys. If you created them directly on the device, this is no longer possible.
