How to update my nextbox from nc version 21.0.0.18 to nc23?

For an yet unknown reason the automated update of my nextbox did not work as described in the FAQ & manuals. The output below shows the current versions.

Now I would like to ask: With which reasonable steps can I bring the existing installation (from the first series Nextbox) to the current version status?

Most likely the “good” sequence of steps is known. After all, one or the other Nextbox out there made it to NC Bump 23.0.8 with on-board means, I suppose.

Note: The elastic search image was manually added and serves the boxes single node fulltext search container.

ok I would recommend do a Backup before this.

Ok could you try to just do this:
sudo apt install nextbox

it will probably fail but then we can figure out why it did not update in the first place.

Now I suspect that the system already fails when trying to retrieve the current package lists due to lack of storage. For the next test I backed up the /var/lib/apt structure and removed the “archived” lists to get some more free space on the “/” volume:

For some (as yet) unknown reason, an overflowing root file system prevented the package lists from being fully updated. As a result, the “unattended upgrades” always showed an up-to-date system.

I detected a 200M large core dump … but it freed up just 1.6M effectively.
Moved /var/lib/apt/lists/deb* away:

well you could have a look into /var/log for freeing up some space, also apt clean helps (clears the apt cache)
